This install applies to "McDisk #3" © 1992 Coma.
Requirements:
-------------
This install requires WHDLoad to be in the path.
It can be found in the WHDLoad package.
To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert.
The installed diskmag requires 0.5 MB ChipMem and 0.5 MB OtherMem
(+1.1 MB OtherMem for preload).
It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey=").
Features:
---------
- Full load from HD
- All OS stuff patched (file loading, Alloc/FreeMem, CopyMem, relocation etc.)
- Interrupts fixed
- Self-modifying code fixed
- Intro can be skipped with CUSTOM1
- Timing fixed
- Interrupt request check fixed
- DMA and interrupt settings fixed
- Blitter waits added (x3)
- Decruncher (ByteKiller) relocated to fast memory and error check added
- DMA wait in replayer fixed (x4)
- Bplcon0 color bit fixes (x221)
- NewIcon (created by me)
- Source code included as usual
- Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'F10')
Creating this patch took me quite some hours to do, the mag code has
been updated again and instead of loading the articles to a fixed buffer
now the needed memory is dynamically allocated. Good opportunity to update
my memory handler that I coded some days ago for the Scene Talk patches.
This wasn't the main problem though, the mag was quickly patched, the real
problem was the intro. Zap's code to rotate and 2d-transform the vector
coordinates used a7 (stackpointer) in the innerloop which caused a lot of
problems as the replayer uses a level 2 interrupt and VBI (vertical blank
interrupt) was enabled too. After quite a few complete lockups I finally
found the reason and modified the routine not to use the a7 register at
all. While I was at it I also fixed the self-modifying code which as used
to translate the points.
The intro is quite nice but I now hate it with a passion.
The intro can be skipped with CUSTOM1.
There is a second title picture after the intro, if it disappears too fast
you can use the ButtonWait tooltype, if enabled the picture will be shown
until left mouse button has been pressed.
All data has been crunched with ByteKiller, I have relocated the decruncher
and added an error check, if decrunching fails WHDLoad will quit with an
appropriate message.
Enjoy McDisk issue 3 from HD.
